Niihau Shell Lei. Momi Ke'oke'o (white "dove" shells). Momi Kua'ula (off white or ivory) "dove" shells interspaced with Kahelelani 'akalaand Kahelelani 'okala pua (i.e. pink turban shells and pink turban shells with circular bands of darker pink cheeks). 10 strands measuring 73 inches including the clasp. The clasp is a 1 inch Isabella cowry (Leh okupe'elima) enhanced with 2 unclipped Kamoa shells (yellow turban shells). A lei of this length, between 60 to 78 inches with ten or more strands were the traditional wedding lei of Ni'ihau. Assessed characteristics: Good selection of shell size, color, placement, and luster. Appropriate fluidity and flow of the strands. Overall good luster. Note: Needs cinching up near the clasp.
