Niihau Shell Lei. Authenticated. Sewn in the Pikake (Jasmine Flower) lei style. 3 strands measuring 40 inches including the clasp. Lei Kipona, mixed shells and/or colors. Classic depiction of the "Kipona" style using Momi Kua'ula (off white "dove" shells ribbed or grooved Momi shells sometimes with light brown streaks or splotches) interspersed with Kahelelani or small turban shells, in a variety of natural colors (Dark Red to Burgundy, Pink, Yellow). They are 2 and 1/2 inch sections between the Pikake so that when worn appear as stripes. The clasp is a traditional Bumpy Cowry shell 1 and ¼ inches (Poleholeho 'apu'upu'u) surrounded with 2 accompanying Puka shells, naturally worn cone shell bottoms with convenient holes on each side of the cowry. Other assessed characteristics: Good selection of shell size, color, and distribution. Good luster and good alignment of shells with proper flexibility and fluidity in structure.
