Niihau Shell Lei. Authenticated. Authenticated. Laiki Kua'ula, off white "rice" shells with light markings. Species name is Mitrella Margarita of the miter family. Species name is Mitrella Margarita of the miter family. 5 strands measuring 37 inches including the clasp. Interspersed 4 times on each strand with Kahelelani 'ula 'ula - turban shells ranging from red to burgundy and Kamoa Lenalena - yellow turban shell tips culminating with a Bumpy or Granulated cowry (Poleholeho 'apu'upu'u), white due to sun bleaching measuring 7/8th inch with 2 Puka shells - naturally worn cone shell bottoms with convenient holes on each side of the cowry. This cowry has a glistening shine to it, which is not common in adult cowry making it rare. Typically, only juvenile cowries exhibit this shine. Other assessed characteristics: Good selection of shell size, color, and placement. Good structure with fluidity and flow. Excellent luster overall.
