1950 Chevrolet Hilo Sampan - Restored! (Runs & Drives See Video). The opening bid is $50,000.

From the estate of Cully Judd, who purchased this from the estate of Ryon Rickard. Rickard acquired this shining relic of yesteryear from Shriner's in 1994. An iconic reflection of island life in a bygone era, it served as a commercial mass transit vehicle (taxi) in Hilo. It later journeyed from Waimanalo to Long Beach, CA, where it was rebuilt from scratch by Custom Built Machines, which breathed life into this gem with an all-modern drive train, according to Rickard, who also cited that "the investment has gone over six figures." The restoration was completed in 2010. Rickard's Hilo Sampan captured first place in the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show's "special interest--motorized" category. Rickard published a book depicting the history of the Hilo Sampan bus. By the 1930s and '40s, there were more than 200 Sampan buses in operation around Hawaii island. These buses operated until the mid-1970s. The last two pictures show the book that Rickard authored and some history on this Sampan. THIS IS CURRENTLY ON OAHU. Own this unique piece of history!

15% buyer's premium will be added to the bid amount, plus 4.712% general excise tax.
