Niihau Shell Lei. Authenticated. Laiki Ahiehie (off-white colored "Rice Shells" with fading) and Laiki Lenalena Ahiehie (off white with yellow/beige hued "Rice Shells" with faded brown markings. Species name is Mitrella Margarita of the miter family. 5 strands measuring 37 inches including the clasp. Lei Kui Pololei Kipona (lei sewn straight). This is also known as the old-fashioned style. Clasp is a 3/4 inch Isabella Cowry (Leho kupe'elima) embellished with 2 Kauno'o or rare variegated sundial shells on each side of the cowry. Assessed characteristics: Excellent luster and good alignment of shells with proper fluidity and flexibility in structure. Good selection of shell color and size. Some sand visible in the shell apertures. Note: Has been repaired.
