Niihau Shell Lei. Momi Kua'ula or off white or ivory ribbed "dove" shells sometimes with subtle light brown streaks or splotches. 5 strands measuring 40 inches including the clasp. The Cowry clasp is a traditional Poleholeho 'apu'upu'u or bumpy or Granulated cowry, white due to sun bleaching and ocean tumbled patina measuring 1 inch with 2 traditional Puka shells- naturally worn cone shell bottoms with convenient holes on each side of the cowry. The spires and aperture tips have been pared or clipped down so that the top and bottom of each shell interlock with the previous one. Assessed characteristics: Excellent luster and good alignment and selection of the shell size, color, and clasp. Appropriate structural fluidity and flexibility of the strands. The paring process with the interlocking shells is well executed.
