Niihau Shell Lei. Laiki Kua'ula, off white "rice" shells with light markings. Species name is Mitrella Margarita of the miter family. Species name is Mitrella Margarita of the miter family. 6 strands measuring 25 inches including the clasp. The clasp is made of 2 well ocean-worn 3/4 inch gold-ringer cowries with hook and eye connectors with 2 traditional Puka shells- naturally worn cone shell bottoms with convenient holes on each side of the cowry. Assessed characteristics: The Laiki shells have good luster. The alignment and structure is somewhat substandard making for an uneven "crooked" lei lacking in fluidity of the strands. Note: Needs some cinching up on all strands.
