Authentic marine art created by Kāneʻohe-based master artist Naoki Hayashi.

Gyotaku is a traditional 19th-century Japanese fish-printing method originally used by fishermen to record the exact size of their catches. An avid diver and fisher, Naoki captures lifelike textures and anatomical details by applying non-toxic acrylic paints directly to a fresh catch and pressing it onto Japanese shoji paper.

He finishes each piece by hand-painting the eyes and replicates true-to-life colors that show the species as they appear in nature.
